Set for Eternity
1 John 2:17 (MSG) The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.
 
The scripture verse for today makes it profoundly clear of what will happen to everything we hold tight to – the things we accumulate, the things we pursue in the names of success, power, and privilege. What we establish here in the earth may set us well for earthly living, but what value does it have for our living in eternity?  Everything in our lives has purpose, but its purpose should never distract us from our command to seek God and serve Jesus. Getting rich fast or living life large according to our desires is not the itinerary God has established for our lives. As children of God, we are the ‘called out’ ones. There are sacrifices we must make in obedience to the will of God that are well worth it. In doing so, we will experience a lasting joy that the world can’t give, and the world can’t take away. Our obedience to God gets us set for Eternity.
