In the Wake of the Night

Job 12: 7a;10 (NLT) “Just ask the animals, and they will teach you...For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.”

The Lord woke Suzy up at 12:45 a.m. When she realized sleep was nowhere to be found, she got up and began walking through each room in her house – listening to the quiet of the night. She went to backdoor in her kitchen and peeped through the curtain. She saw a deer sitting in her backyard! She eased the curtain down and went to the den where she could get a better view. When she tilted the window blinds open – to her surprise – there were eight beautiful deer sitting in her yard! Seven had their heads tucked and were sleeping, and the deer she spotted from her kitchen door was alert and keeping watch over the rest of them. What an amazing sight to witness under the luminous glow of the security light from a nearby pole. When she finally decided to close the blinds and return to her bed, Suzy thought to herself, ‘I’m not the only one who’s up in the middle of the night. There’s a reason for everything. If God woke me up for nothing else but to witness those beautiful deer sleeping with the exception of the one who is keeping watch over them, then I am sweetly reminded that whether I am awake or asleep, my Heavenly Father is the One Who is always watching over me.’ No sweeter love I know than the protective love of God for His children. Amen.
