We Celebrate Our Culture!

Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT) “For the Lord your god is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

It’s unfortunate that the beautiful characteristics of our African American culture are not a natural part of everyday life in America. After all, our ancestors built America, didn’t they? Think about the customary style of our African attire with its vibrant colors, patterns, and textures. How about the beat of the drums and our natural body rhythms and movements? Today’s young artists are producing ‘afrobeats’ that are catching the ear and the dance styles of people from all different races. Mmmm...do you smell that? That’s jollof rice, curried goat, and all of the fabulous African dishes that are a part of our culture’s creative and festive cuisine! My, oh, my! Here come the kings and queens, princes and princesses! Beautiful shades of brown skin, braided hair, slick hair, cropped, cut, and no hair! Eyes and bodies rich with the vibrancy of life! My, my, my! We must not settle with celebrating our culture for only 28 short days in the year! We belong in every day of the year! Let us celebrate our culture in such a way that the world doesn’t think we’ve forgotten who we really are! Praise God Almighty for creating His people of African heritage!
