Times Were Different Then

Ecclesiastes 7:10 (NLT) Don’t long for the “good old days.” This is not wise.

I’m guilty of having longed for what I considered to be the ‘good old days’ – that is, until I gained an understanding of what such a sentiment implies. Longing for the ‘good old days’ is like saying that God did a better job being God ‘back then’ than He is doing today. May the Lord have mercy and forgive us for our ignorance and indifference! When we reminisce about the days gone by, we know that times were different then. But our God of yesterday, today, and forever was there with us then - protecting us from spiritual warfare unbeknownst to us, and providing for our every need – just as He continues to do unto this present age. Almighty God holds our future - not our past - in His hands – not our past in His hands. There’s nothing wrong with reminiscent reflections, as long as we remain living with a forward direction in mind. We serve a Great and Mighty God. He does all things with excellence!
