The Only Way To Forgive

Colossians 3:13 (ESV) ...bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Man! No room for ifs, ands, or buts. When God says do it His way, there is no further discussion.    So, why do we struggle to forgive ourselves and each other? Oh, it may have something to do with our capacity to love the way God loves us. The sting of being wrong and to be wronged hurts like heck, but we are commanded not to hold on to that hurt. It becomes poison in our spirit, and it hinders us from stretching and growing in the vastness of God’s love. The only way to forgive is to release all – ALL –resentment. Where God casts all our sins into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19b), it is there where we are to cast all unforgiveness and forget about it. When we grant mercy we escape the shackles of unforgiveness, and we bless ourself and our recipients recipient. Win-win. That’s just like our God.
