Mama’s Prayers (Mother’s Day)
1 Samuel 1:26-28 (CSB) “Please, my lord,” [Hannah]said, “as surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. I prayed for this boy, and since the Lord gave me what I asked him for, I now give the boy to the Lord. For as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord.”
Of all the things that a praying mother wants for her children – good health, security, provision, opportunities, good friends – her greatest desire is for them to have covering and a close relationship with God. Being caregiver and nurturer - a mother is intentional in demonstrating to her children the importance of God’s Presence in her life and theirs. She prays for her children even before they are born. She teaches them how to pray to the God Who delivered them into the world through her body and Who will care for them eternally. The time eventually comes when the children become grown, and a mother has to let them go and create their own lives. But she knows they will always be her children, because in her prayers she had already given them back to the One first gave them to her...the Lord. To our mothers on this special day: “Thank you for all of your prayers. May God continue to bless and keep you. We love you forever. Happy Mother’s Day.”
