The Quick Fix Flaw
Romans 12:12 (NLT) Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
It is more than okay to not provide a quick fix for every mistake or poor decision that our children will make. When we come to their rescue each time, we are guilty of three things: (1) We abort a learning lesson that is vitally important to their life’s purpose; (2) We feed the flaw of their character development; and (3) We give them the wrong message about God’s love and our love for them – which causes them to learn the wrong way of loving themselves and others. It is never too late to change how we approach our children when they have made mistakes. The turnaround period will undoubtedly be uncomfortable, but the lifelong benefits are worth every effort that we can account to raising children who will eventually acquire a reverent respect for their Savior and a reverent appreciation for their parents. Amen.
