Righteous Living
Luke 1:6-7 (AMP) They both [Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth] were righteous (approved) in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord. But they were childless, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both far advanced in years.
We are living in times when we are offered so many back doors, shortcuts, and under-the-table ways to advance ourselves and receive what we want - when and how we want it. It’s easy to tell ourselves that we deserve to have what we want, especially when we get it. But are our actions righteous to the commands of God? It behooves us to remember that we live in two realms. In this world where we ‘temporarily’ reside it is necessary for us to abide by the law of the land respectively. But at the same time, our authentic citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven requires of us to obey the authority of our God and to seek His instruction in all that we do – even as it applies to what the law of the land says. There are no other avenues to living a righteous life. Righteous living may include a long wait on some things that we desire to have in the now, but the sweetness of the Promise of righteous living is worth every moment that we wait in hope. Don’t you agree? Zechariah and Elizabeth certainly would. They may have been advanced in years, but notice how they never stopped praying for what they knew their God could provide. Praise His Holy Name!
