Making Ready for the Lord

Luke 1:17 (AMP) “... It is he [John] who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous [which is to seek and submit to the will of God] –in order to make ready a people [perfectly] prepared [spiritually and morally] for the Lord.”

Oh, Halleluiah! May our life’s work glorify the Kingdom of God! This is one of those ‘when you know what you know’ moments for me, and I pray that it will be one for you, too. What is our purpose in life? When we learn about and accept the Good News of Jesus Christ for ourselves, our purpose in life is to share it with all of the people we encounter who may not know it, who may doubt it, who may need to be reminded of it, and even those who may flat out rebuke it! That’s what John’s life purpose was. From his mother’s womb he got excited about his assignment in the earth – to make ready the way for the Lord’s coming. He wasn’t responsible for saving souls. His responsibility was to prepare souls to receive salvation by telling the Good News of the coming Messiah. The Savior of all would do the soul saving when He arrived. John’s life models our life’s purpose. The forerunner of Jesus prepared hearts to receive Jesus when He came. This is our purpose in life – to make ready for the return of the Lord by sharing the Good News of our Savior with joy and excitement! And the rest will be set in order when Jesus returns!
