The Crowd Doesn’t Know

Luke 1:59-60 (AMP) It happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child [as required by Law], and they intended to name him Zacharias, after his father; but his mother [Elizabeth] answered, “No indeed; instead he will be called John.”

The Word of the Lord is above all laws, customs, and traditions of the peoples. His Word gives precise instruction as to what shall and shall not be. His Word stands alone amid whatever the majority may pronounce. Unlike Elizabeth and Zacharias’s confused neighbors and relatives who thought they were correct in insisting that the baby be given his father’s name, Elizabeth and Zacharias knew that they served an unconventional God. They obeyed God and named their baby ‘John’ with the understanding that their family and friends had no say in what the Lord was about to do through the life of their baby who would grow up to be the forerunner for Jesus. How many times has the Holy Spirit spoken a Word to you, but you went to the crowd to get affirmation before you obeyed God’s will? When God sends His Word to you, receive it in your spirit, protect it, and obey it through your actions. The crowd doesn’t know what God’s plans are for your life.
