Fruitcake

Psalm 34:8-9 (AMP) Oh taste and see that the LORD [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who takes refuge in Him.

I hear you already. You’re wondering what in the world does fruitcake have to do with today’s scripture. I’m going to tell you. It seem like Christmas makes the matriarchs in some families get all turned up about making their prized secret recipe fruitcake. While the smell of the cake in the oven is delightful, the truth of the matter is that everybody in the family doesn’t particularly care for fruitcake. But the fruitcake holds a lesson we can all learn from. See how the dried fruits and chopped nuts and raisins and cherries all bake into their fitting place and create a beautiful and delicious treat to be enjoyed? That’s how God’s people are meant to come together – with all of our differences – and complement each other with our differences in love so that we are a pleasing delight for the Lord.
Pay attention to the Christmas fruitcake. Jesus came into a world full of dried fruits and nuts (like you and me)! The least we can do is come together. He came for our good, and for the good of us. Amen?
