Tight Grip
1 John 5:19; 21 (NIV) We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one... Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.
Stillness and meditation; quiet reflection; moments of rest; alone time in prayer...these are times when we unplug from the world and its distractions and devices, and we allow God to hide us under the covering of His wings for a while. The god of this world is happy when we don’t take the time to do these things. But when we do steal away to our Father – and the more that we do it – the tighter the grip we have on the Vine Who connects us to God. Our grip of faith dims the glitz and glam of the world and causes it to become less appealing to us. Truthfully, the world cannot offer us anything that is worthy of having an eternal place in our heart. Jesus is the only One to Whom our ohearts belong. Grip Him tight.
