Adverse Independence
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NLT) We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
Our dependence on God is the only real freedom we have in this world. We need Him for everything! Without God, everything we do would pose to be harmful to us in one way or another. Freedom that is attained apart from God is a magnet to everything that opposes the benefits that come with our dependence on Him. We live in a nation that prides itself on being independent from the dictates of other countries. Yet, we live within borders, laws, rulings, racial and gender biases, etc. that press, perplex, hunt, and knock down the diverse population of its citizens and cultures. We live within the confines of an adverse independence…at least for now. But thank God that we - His ‘called out ones’ -have citizenship in the Heavenly Kingdom where eternal freedom awaits us! For each new day that God allows us to see, we celebrate our daily dependence on Him.
