The Most Important Thing
Matthew 22:36-39 (NLT) “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: “Love your neighbor as yourself.’…”
There you have it. Jesus said the most important commandment is to love our God with all – not some – but “all” of our heart, soul, and mind. But Jesus does not say we are to love variations of God. There is only one God, and His Word, His Love, and His commandments are the same for everyone. This poses a serious problem for many who proclaim ‘a god’ – but not ‘the God’ of the Holy Scriptures. Our God, His Word, and His love cannot be conformed to the cultural conveniences of the world. He owns the world and everything in it, and He gives us Kingdom principles to live by. A.W. Tozer said it best that ‘what comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.’ Our obedience to God’s commandments is dependent on our commitment to believe in Who He says He is versus who the world wants to make Him out to be. Say that!
