Good Soldiers (Memorial Day)

2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NIV) Join me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.

On Memorial Day we always think about the brave men and women who’ve made the career choice to serve and protect our country. We’re grateful for these good soldiers who have made sacrifices so they can protect the security of our country and its citizens. But we’re also grateful for the families, friends, and communities who also make sacrifices back home. While our soldiers are serving under their commanding officer, civilians are doing the very same thing. Warfare – spiritual warfare – is everywhere, and we are commissioned here on the home front to stay suited up in the armor of God. Our Commanding Officer orders us to stay alert and to continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus while offering love, joy, and peace to our fellowmen. We are soldiers – good soldiers – in the army of the Lord, and we serve our Commander to please Him. Amen.
