Brothers and Sisters (National Siblings Day)

1 John 4:21 (NIV) And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

My brothers and sisters – you’ve got to love them! As youngsters, it didn’t take much for us to start arguing, and we weren’t too keen on sharing. When we were old enough for our parents to leave us at home when they went out, we’d hold our version of wrestle mania and hide Mama’s broken favorite what-not until the inevitable day she’d notice it was missing. Brothers teased sisters, and sisters tattled on brothers. We looked out for each other at school, and if one of us was sick, we all took turns being Mama’s nurse’s aide until the patient was well again. Now adults, we call each other by our formal names when we’re making jokes. But when we gather back at the folk’s house – we go by our childhood nicknames. We’re up until the wee morning hours talking real talk and recalling our wrestle mania events. Brothers see their sisters as queens, and sisters deem their brothers to be the handsome knights of the roundtable. Yeah…it goes like that. Brothers and sisters – our love for each other runs deep.
