Running On Empty

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

We’ve grown so accustomed to the way businesses provide us with such expedient services that we rarely think about what it takes to make it possible – particularly the people who work behind the scenes to make it happen. I’m sure there are plenty folks who are running on empty because there is an imbalance in their worktime and their rest time. I would bargain to say that a large percentage of workers operate on burnout, and they keep themselves bolstered up on a large intake of caffeine! People should work – yes - but not to the extent that they function on fumes of exhaustion. God commands us to retreat or withdraw from our labor periodically to rest, rest?ore, and be inspired. Some of the best businesses are as successful as they are because their essential workers are required to take periodic retreats and completely disengage from their work duties. The difference it makes in the workers’ overall wellbeing is a priceless asset to the businesses. Whatever job you do – whether it’s behind the scenes or in public – let your selfcare be a primary obligation that you honor. Life is more doable when we can do it in good health.
