Be Your Natural Self
1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV) But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outer appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
How much time, money, and energy do you spend to make yourself presentable to the world? Do you invest just as much or more into making yourself presentable to God? Fortunately, God doesn’t require us to have the superficial stuff to come before Him. However, what He does require is more worthy of investing our time, resources, and energy. When God looks at you and me, He is looking to see His Son Jesus inside of us. To be able to reflect the nature of Jesus, we only need to be our natural selves and give Jesus our attention so we can learn to become more and more like Him. Our goal is not to look like people whom the world approves of. Our goal is to look like our Savior, Jesus Christ! When we do this, our hearts will be adorned in the finest attire because the love of Jesus supersedes the world’s caste for outward appearance and illuminates the spiritual beauty of our Savior that the world is in desperate need of. We possess such glory when we embrace Jesus and be our natural selves.
