Three Hours In Time

Acts 2:23 (NIV) This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

Jesus had done nothing wrong. He was sinless. He was pure. He was God’s perfect and precious Son. But they beat him. They crucified Him, and then they nailed Him to a cross. All the sin He was accused of was of our own. He didn’t have to stay on that cross for us. But He demonstrated the epitome of His love and God’s love for us – by hanging on that rugged cross for three of the longest hours in time. Weighed down by the sins of the world, He looked like we do in our sin, and God had to turn away from Him. As if being nailed on the cross wasn’t enough, He also bore the pain of seeing His Father turn away from Him. Why? So that we could escape eternal hell and receive God’s redeeming deliverance from our sins. Oh! Oh! Oh! There is no greater act of love than the love our Lord and Savior voluntarily conveyed during those three hours in time when He hung on a cross on Calvary’s hill.
