The Power of Song
“We never knew what to expect; we didn’t know whether we would get shot or whether we would get beat up. That’s when the songs came into play; they kept me from being afraid.”

Rutha Mae Harris (1940 – present) Civil Rights veteran; original Civil Rights Freedom Singer; member of Mount Zion Baptist Church/Albany, GA

When we sing, our vessels become communicators between the spiritual realm of Heaven and earth. And within that realm, our songs disrupt the strategies of Satan! The spiritual vernacular of songs sung for freedom cause fear to become fearful and flee!!! Singing reigns down a Divine surveillance over whatever we are facing; it strengthens and unifies us, and it glorifies the Savior Who has ordained that ‘we shall overcome’! Keep on singing, Rutha! We join you in lifting our voices to sing the songs of Zion! Psalm 71:23-24 (NLT) I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated.
