The Blessings of Culture
Revelation 7:9-10 (NLT) After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, “Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!”
In addition to the ongoing celebration of our Savior Jesus Christ is the harvest festival celebration of African and African American culture. Hand in hand, the celebration of Christmas and Kwanzaa are Kingdom festivities! How so? The gift of Jesus from over 2000 years ago and the gift of our ancestral heritage many generations deep are legacies that the present and future generations will continue to build upon. God’s Kingdom is about the relationship and the work of the church, family, and community – as is the celebration of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa’s seven principles of unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith embody the essentials of what God commands of all the different cultures He has created. We can’t help but to celebrate when we know that our culture is rooted in the will of God. Happy Kwanzaa!
