The Promises of Christmas
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT) “…Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
The birth of our Savior was a threat to the wicked souls in the earth, and Herod was a wicked soul. He went ballistic and executed an order for his men to go to the inner and outer regions of Bethlehem and kill all little boys ages two years and younger. In this way, he thought surely the baby Jesus would die. But God had Joseph to take Mary and the baby to Egypt and stay there until Herod’s death. Afterwards, God told Joseph to go back to Israel with his family. But then, He diverted Joseph to Galilee where he, Mary, and baby Jesus took residence. This move was to protect them from the potential harm of Judea’s new ruler Archelaus, the son of Herod. God’s strategic plan for our Savior’s birth fulfilled promises of Christmas spoken by the prophet in Matthew 2:15 – ‘God called His Son out of Egypt’; and in Matthew 2:23 – ‘Jesus would be called a Nazarene’. Such are the promises God has in mind for you and me when we trust in His plans for our lives. The promises of Christmas are about the gift of our Eternal Life with God. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
