Ringing of the Bells
Exodus 28:33:35b (NLT) Make pomegranates out of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and attach them to the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. …and the bells will tinkle as he [Aaron] goes in and out of the Lord’s presence in the Holy Place.
The tinkling or ringing of the gold bells on the hem of the High Priest’s distinctive-made garment was purposed to keep him from being struck to his death when he went before the Lord within the sacred tent. The bells sounded with his movements as he performed his service. Tinkling bells signified life, and silent bells signified death. It is traditional to hear bells ringing with gaiety during the Christmas season, and with great reason. The ringing of the bells at Christmas are symbolic to the announcement of the much-awaited birth of Jesus! This Good News is for all the world to know, and what better way is there to welcome the arrival of King Jesus than by the ringing of the bells!
