The Most Critical Question
Matthew 16:13-15 (NIV) …[Jesus] asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you” [Jesus] asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Wow…imagine yourself standing before Jesus as He asks you the most critical question of your life: ‘Who do you say I am?’ What would your response be to the Savior who knows you through and through? For your sake and mine, let me say that rambling off the different names as He’s referred to will not impress Jesus. He already knows who He is! The question remains, ‘Who do you say He is?’ We can’t hide the truth of our answer from Jesus. Why not? Because the way we live already answers for us. Our verbal response will either confirm the truth of our living or condemn us as liars. Jesus has long been asking us this critical question. If we are wise, we will take advantage of each new day to align our actions and show Him in earnest not only Who we say He is, but also just how much He means to us. Selah.
