An Ego In Christ (Veterans Day)

1 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT) For what gives you the right to make such a judgement? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

“Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.” Colin Luther Powell (1937-2021) First African American Secretary of State, 4-Star General, diplomat, American Statesman

In all of our life experiences we can say, “Look at God.” What we accomplish, what we survive, how we are blessed, and how we are vessels of blessings to others – it’s all God. It is God Who allows us to be alive and to do all that we do – from a simple yawn when He wakes us up in the morning, to serving in whatever capacity of our life’s work. To extol ourselves for the home, family, freedom, resources, job positions, etc. that God provides for us is to veer away from Him being the Source of everything about us. We will be guilty of attaching our ego to our stuff and our well-being. Let’s not be so foolish to think that is a secure way to live. The thief roams all around us, and if he takes down what we’ve got our egos attached to – then he’ll take us down as well. But if we fall with our ego rooted in Christ, then guess what? All is not lost, and we will rise again – bigger, better, and stronger than we were before! Don’t lose your sense of self in the positions of this world, for nothing in this world will last. Have an ego in Jesus Christ. In this way you will acknowledge to the world that your vessel and everything about you completely belongs to Him. Amen.
