Live Above Your Circumstances
2 Corinthians 1:9 (NLT) In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.
It has some of us a lot of years to learn how to deal with discouragements that can swing us into a mode of hopelessness. The Bible says to ‘rely on the Lord’ – but we keep looking at the source of our pain and sorrow. The more we do that, the more often and longer hopelessness seems to occur. But when we get to the place where we can’t take it anymore, we turn to God and asked Him to show us how to get over the hurdles. He reveals to us through His Word that we have to stop looking at our problem and keep our eyes on Him. We also have to stop going from person to person to seek counsel, and trust in the wisdom He gives. Lastly – we have to learn how to have hope in positive outcomes rather than negative outcomes. Nothing ventured – nothing gained. We have to discipline ourselves to do the things we know to be true of God. Ultimately, our experiences with discouragement will become better when we learn to live above our circumstances. Learning to rely on God gives us reason to have hope in life.
