Divine Exchanges
Ecclesiastes 2:18-19 (NLT) I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned. And who can tell whether my successors will be wise or foolish?

The sporadic energy we exert in our projects may produce results, but what initially inspires our tasks can sometimes end abruptly. Then what? An unsettled frustration remains in our spirit because we expect more for the time and energy we invest. It’s alright to do good things and to have good things, but our ambitions need to go beyond ourselves. Through our relationship with Jesus, everything we can do has a purpose that at some point comes into play for others. We get bored and burned out when we attempt to gain and sustain everything we can have and hold onto for ourselves. But by our seeking God, we learn to understand and benefit from the relational and transitional exchanges that offer scope, focus, and perpetual meaning to all of life’s experiences and interactions. That - my brothers and sisters - is called divine exchanges. Therefore, we must continue to ‘work willingly at whatever [we] do, as though[we] were working for the Lord rather than for people…the Lord will give [us] an inheritance as [our] reward…the Master [we] are serving is Christ’ (Colossians 3:23-34)!
