A Mocker’s Fate
Proverbs 17:5(NIV) Those who mock the poor insult their Maker; those who rejoice at the misfortune of others will be punished.
There was a man who took pleasure in making people laugh at the cost of others’ misfortunes. In secret, this was his way of drawing the attention he desired to himself to compensate for his insecurities. The man’s wife continuously warned him to stop what he was doing for the sake of the consequences he would have to bare. He rebuked her each time and told her she was too religious. One day the man’s wife died unexpectedly. He became distraught with overbearing thoughts of his insecurities. All at once he could hear the echoing sounds of his wife’s warnings. The man fell ill and had to be placed in a facility where he could be cared for. To his embarrassment, all of his caregivers were people he had mocked and humiliated at different times in his life. As his health grew worse, the people he mistreated provided him with the most tender loving care. Just before he died, his caregivers gathered around him and prayed. When the man took in his last breath, he breathed out the words, “I’m sorry.” Let this be a reminder to all of us that everyone God creates has a blessed purpose. Always treat people from all walks of life in the manner you wish to be treated. You never know who you may need to depend on to lend you a helping hand. Amen.
