Solitude
Matthew 14:23 (NLT) After sending them home, he [Jesus] went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
Spending time alone in our sole company is a health regimen for our wellbeing. There is always work to do, and there is always unnecessary busyness that crowds in on us and crowds out the essential qualities of living. We need to occasionally steal away long enough from the many connections in our life so we can get the chance to ‘feel our existence’ in this enormous world. Solitude allows us the space and time we need to release stress and calm ourselves by way of meditation, reflection, reposition…mixed in with enjoyable proportions of eating, sleeping, and doing absolutely nothing! Solitude is the place where we can acknowledge and work on our inner issues – those things that are prone to disconnect us from the positive connections in our spiritual and physical realms – we so often put aside. In our own company we can bask in the awareness that our life is wholly for the purpose of God, and of all that we do, spending time in restorative solitude is a splendid time God looks forward to having us all to Himself. Amen.
