Devotion

“The first fresh hour of every morning should be dedicated to the Lord, whose mercy gladdens it with golden light.”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (Influential English Baptist Preacher) 1834-1892
Today God Is First (T.G.I. F.)

(Matthew 22:37-39 NIV) Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

We take hold of the thoughts and activities that prevent us from being in the Presence of God at the very start of our day. Today, God is first, and we realize that we are guilty of not consistently revering Him as the number one priority in our life. For the sake of our relationship with our Heavenly Father, we owe it to Him to respond in obedience and not default on giving Him our time and attention. It’s not because God needs this from us; but it is because God wants this for us. God is the Creator of relationship, and neglecting our relationship with Him is a definite demonstration of how well we are doing in our relationship with the people in our lives. Our negligence with God mirrors our negligence to ourselves. God is the first in all of creation: ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth’ (Genesis1:1). God is the beginning. Who are we to think we have anything about our lives that is worthy of being first before our God? Rise. Shine. Give God His glory. T.G.I.F.

Father, thank you for showing us the error of our ways and for giving us another chance to do what we are supposed to. We commit ourselves to You being first place in our life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
