The Reality and Fantasy of Christmas

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. --- Proverbs 22:6

It is up to us to teach our children that Christmas is about Jesus Christ, and that we celebrate because it's all about Jesus’s birthday! Children deserve to know that Jesus loves all children, He does not keep a naughty or nice list, and He blesses them with special gifts each and every day of their lives! They should understand that they will never outgrow Jesus, but as they grow older they can grow closer to Him. And children deserve to realize how they are made in His image and likeness so they can embrace the reality of just how beautiful they are when they look at themselves in a mirror. We don't have to take away the fun children enjoy at Christmastime. However, we must help them understand the difference between the fantasy of a jolly Santa who comes and goes and the reality of our Living Savior Who is always present and is the reason we have and celebrate Christmas at all. Amen.
