Yes and No
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. --- 1 Corinthians 10:13
Here we have two simple words that can do so much harm or so much good - depending on the choice we make between the two. You don't think so? Well, let's deal with the matter of temptations we face in life. A super - size chocolate chip cookie may be a tough temptation to ignore for a sweets lover. Saying yes to the cookie occasionally is fine. But if we give in to the temptation on the regular, we can expect some uncomfortable consequences that may be difficult - but not impossible - to change. A cookie is a minor temptation. Let's see...how about hoarding, lying, promiscuity, stealing, etc.? Just like the delicious cookie, all of these things begin as minor temptations. But as time goes on and our response to them remains 'yes', they become a spiritual endangerment to us. However, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - we cannot overcome when we turn to God for help. He won't let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. He provides us with a way out. He is our Way out. But He will not do for us what we must do for ourselves - which leaves us with the best word to follow when facing the threat of temptation. Just say, "No."
