Active Faith
Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. --- James 5:17-18
I believe we can experience the real power and effectiveness of the Word of God in our lives if we make up our minds to accept and believe that the people whom we read about in the Bible were normal human beings just like us. They did all the humanistic things that we do today. When we read about how God did miraculous things for them, through them, and to them - it is easy for us to dismiss their stories as things that happened long ago when God was more close and more hands on with His people. There is no truth in that. God requires the same of us what He did of the people in biblical times. That is - active faith. Active faith was instrumental in Abraham and Sarah’s conception of a baby during their old age. Moses may have made a host of excuses why he couldn't go and deliver the Israelites from Egypt, but his active faith believed in the greatness of God and what He could do through an ordinary man holding an ordinary staff. And when that Christian persecutor named Saul had his experience on the Damascus road - not only did he receive new sight, the Holy Spirit, and a new name (Paul) - but his activated faith gave him a burning desire to profess the Lord Jesus Christ! God is just as close and just as hands on with us now as He ever was! Our active faith in the Author and the Finisher of the Word is the key to unlocking many miracles! But it can't be dormant faith. It has to be activated faith, and it is up to us to put it to work! I dare you to put your faith to work. What could possibly happen...a miracle, perhaps?
