Use Me Up, Dear Lord!
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. --- Psalms 51:10-12
I will never reach an age for retirement. I have decided to evolve through all the stages of my life doing things that matter to the Kingdom of God. I may do some things that are different from what I am currently doing and at a more gradual pace, but what I do will have the same purpose that my current works have. That is, to serve God and to serve God's people. Now, you tell me how I can do this if I retire in the manner that retirement was originally intended. It can't be done. My life is not my own, and I want the Lord to use me up until everything He intends to deliver through me and to His people has been exhausted fully. It is then - and only then - that I will graciously accept retirement as He so wills to me. Yeah, I am going to ride out the joy of God's salvation with the willing spirit He has given me, and set souls on fire for the Lord until He calls me home! This makes life all the more worth living! I want the Lord to fill me up until I overflow, so I can keep on sharing the overflow of His Good News to all people! As long as I’m here in the land of the living, I'm going to serve Him with my love and conviction to win as many of my brothers and sisters in creation over to Christ! Out of all the things in life that are worth achieving, I can't think of anything greater! Go ahead! Use me up, Dear Lord! Tell me, what do you envision doing with the current and the latter years of your life?
