Let’s Not Fool Ourselves
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." --- Matthew 26:41
Nothing within reason is too hard for us to do unless we fool ourselves to believe we can do anything without the sustaining power of Jesus Christ. We know that with the help of our Savior nothing is impossible. But we have to always be aware of what we are up against because of our attachment to the Vine. As soon as we make up our minds to do something that will be positive for ourselves or for the lives of others, the adversary grants a winning lottery ticket to persons or circumstances so they can intercept and revoke our plans. Our plans can range from living a healthier lifestyle, having a better attitude, saving money, or - 'hell' forbid - spending consistent time reading our Bible and praying!!! If we aren't watchful of our activities and associations, and stay prayerful for God's strength and protection throughout our efforts - just like that - we risk our flesh falling victim to temptations that are purposed to abort our mission. We are not strong enough, smart enough, or even brave enough to do anything apart from God. The ways of the world would have us to think differently. But we are wise enough through our relationship with Jesus to know better than to fool ourselves or to allow ourselves to be fooled into believing such a lie. Yes, our spirits may be willing and ready to soar like the eagle, but there is the matter of our humanness...our flesh to attend to. But - Greater is He Who is in us than he that is in the world when we faithfully and consistently watch and pray.
