Tell Them Your Back Story
My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long-though I know not how to relate them all. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. --- Psalms 71:15-16
"I am tired of living life on my own. I don’t know what I'm doing. Life just isn't fair. I’ve made so many shameful mistakes. Every day I have a hungry and hollow ache eating me up inside. I can't comfort it with food, friends, money or things. It is like an ulcer, and it has my soul weary. Everything about my life seems so...dim. I just can't get myself together. There is no joy for me. I see no reason to hope for anything better than what I already know. And you - you stand here with a smile that casts a glow all over you. You speak to me in that peaceful tone - telling me you have Someone you want to tell me about Who will make all the difference in my life. Huh! I've been to the doctor, and even he couldn't cure what I am feeling inside! But you insist that this Someone can give me what I'm in need of. Yeah, right! What makes you think I want to waste my time listening to you tell me about how wonderful your life is? Why wouldn't you be happy? You appear to have your act together. You have probably never made the kind of mistakes I have. I guess I just don't deserve any better."
My brothers and sisters in Christ - the dialogue you just read is characteristic to the thoughts and feelings of any one of us who may be feeling hopeless or has lost hope and needs to be introduced or reconnected to a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. While it is God's commandment for us to share the Good News, let us go about it in the gentlest of ways. We are to be patient and loving, and know Who is doing the work through us. We can help others to understand the joy of our countenance by sharing our personal 'Saul to Paul' back story. Our former days offer a treasure of testimony for the Lord, and a wellspring of hope for those who seek Him. Selah.
