Mid-Week Rut…Mid-Week Reminder!

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. --- Psalms 28:7

'Whew, it is Wednesday already! Now, if I can just make to Friday, I will be alright.'  For those of us who will admit that we sometimes feel this way - let me help us free ourselves from what I call a 'mid-week rut'.  We spin in a weasel's wheel because we are accustomed to doing the same things in the same way at the same time for the same reasons - day after day after day. We fill our time with routine and busyness without taking notice of the day's exquisite newness. Our minds and our actions rotate around the 'what, when, where, and who' and who' that we prioritize. We do this to ourselves. It gets old living new days with the same old stuff in it. By the time Wednesday gets here - we are at a pivotal rut - and we long for Friday to set us free (at least until everything starts all over again)! But here is a mid-week reminder for us: Each new day God gives us is spectacular and original - not a copy and not a repeat of any other day before or day to come. New liberties come with each new day...so, don't you think we ought to get off the weasel's wheel and try doing things in more peculiar ways? I wager that if we revamp our 'usual way' of doing what we do, we will discover that we can live more freely, think more clearly, and add some creative boost to our week days that will make our activities feel more like 'WOW' instead of 'Whews'! By breathing new life into our old habits, we will enjoy a better flow of the entire week without getting stuck in a mid-week rut!
