My Giant
And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. --- Genesis 18:19a

It was the richness of his laughter and the brightness of his eyes that made me feel so special. It was the solid pounding of his heartbeat as I lay my head on his chest and the strength of his arms when he picked me up and carried me to bed that made me feel secure. It was how he got down on the floor with me to play or to watch T.V., and how he hugged Momma and made her smile that made me feel happy inside. All these things that I recall about my daddy are dear memories to me. But there is one memory that continues to have an amazing impact on my life. When I was still a little squirt, Daddy used to take me out for afternoon walks - come rain or shine - we went walking! Sunny days were my favorite because we had a Friend Who liked to join us in our walk. I would look up at Daddy as he talked and pointed things out to me - red cars, the smell of flowers, marshmallow clouds, and the like. When I would look around, I'd notice this tall figure either to left of Daddy or to the right of me. Daddy always told me that was Jesus walking with us. He said we could not see Him on rainy days, but He was there with us even then. Daddy told me that when I got older people would refer to Jesus as my shadow, but he wanted me to always remember that no matter where I go in my life - Jesus will always go with me. His ways of teaching me most of life lessons were done through examples of how ever-present  Jesus was in my life then just as He is today. My daddy now lives with the Lord. He loved me enough to raise me in the knowledge of my Savior, and because of that- Daddy will always be my giant.  (May all fathers bless their children of all ages with their irreplaceable time, attention, love, care, and conversation. Your investment will reach far into the future for many generations to come.)
