Preventive Measures
The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. --- Psalm 41:3

We are guilty believing that since we are feeling healthy and strong, we can just work, work, work all the time! This is our way of trying to stay on top of things and get ahead. But this thinking is wrong. When we get sick, our body is saying, "Hey! I need a maintenance check! This may cost you a doctor's visit, medical tests, prescriptions and some downtime!" When we spend our free time working all day, late into the early morning hours and during days we're off, we are actually working to pay for time we will need to take care of our sickness. Proactively taking time out for rest and recreation demonstrates wisdom and respect on our part for the vital importance of balance. Time out from working is an antidote our bodies need regularly in order to maintain good health. Too often,  it isn't until we are flat on our backs with a fever and no appetite before we consider how much we’ve pushed our bodies instead of honoring our human limitations and needs. Fortunately, the Lord is faithful to restore us and allow us to step into the discipline of obedient care for ourselves. Are you the workaholic in your family? Who is going to take care of you if you don't take care of yourself? Who is watching you and learning your habits? Practicing preventive measures now is a great investment toward enjoying good health for the long haul of your life!
