Can You Hear God?
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
When people ask me what it sounds like to hear God speak to me, I realize they are seeking something to help them hear God for themselves. There is no one certain way for everyone to hear God’s voice. He speaks to His children in various ways and through various means - based on the unique way He made each of us. When I tell you that God loves us beyond our ability to comprehend, I tell you no lie! I literally get breathless when I meditate on His love for me! I know God’s voice when I hear Him speak to me because I talk with Him all the time. Therefore, I recognize His voice. It’s a gift that comes with having a close relationship with Him. His voice resides in me - not out there, or up there, or somewhere else. It is already in me, and it doesn’t sound like my own voice. I hear Him in various ways of understanding – sight, sound, prompts, and His strong Presence - are just a few. The time I spend alone with Him helps me to hear Him even in a noisy crowd of people or my thoughts. Go and be still in His Presence. You will be delighted to discover that you were hearing Him all along, but you just realize it was Him.
